Year 7 + 8

At Kurnai College, we pride ourselves on supporting the diverse learning needs of all students. To do this our Year 7 and 8 programs are designed to provide experiential opportunities for students to develop their passions and interests before moving into more specialised units in the senior program. We offer a range of interventions for students particularly targeting literacy and numeracy support, we also offer targeted explicit literacy instruction to all year 7 and 8 students to extend their reading and writing skills.

Our teachers prioritise building strong, personalised learning relationships with each student and we utilise research supported frameworks such as the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), Berry Street Education Model, and the Resilience Project to support our work on building a positive climate for learning and the emotional wellbeing of every student.

With our multi-tiered approach to teaching, your child will:

  • Receive scaffolds and supports to target their learning needs
  • Receive targeted interventions for areas that require additional support
  • Have opportunities for engagement in extension programs available within the school as well as through external providers.
  • Experience a learning environment where they feel supported and valued.

At Kurnai College, students engage with a core curriculum which is tailored to embedding important foundation skills and introduces them to a broad selection of subject areas, this provides students the opportunity to develop their talents and strengths, enabling them to specialise in specific areas in the middle and senior years.
