Through Kurnai College’s instructional model, we ensure consistent, evidence-based best teaching practices are used across the curriculum. The model is founded on the Victorian Department of Education’s High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) and centred around the gradual release of responsibility (Fisher & Fray, 2021).

Kurnai College’s instructional model prioritises engagement in learning through connection to student experiences and prior knowledge. Lessons are structured to provide explicit instruction, teacher modelling and collaborative learning to provide students with multiple exposures to develop their skills. Formative assessment and guided instruction are embedded throughout lessons to ensure timely feedback and targeted support is provided to students. These evidence-based approaches to lesson planning improve student outcomes to prepare them for their bright futures.
